Windows 11, version 22H2

  • Version number. The version number will be “22H2”.
  • Part numbers. Available here.
  • Customer Support Training resources. Microsoft is making available the English version of the training that it uses for its own support representative training so that OEMs can use to inform their own training plans. The files are not intended to be used to train OEM customer services representatives, just to provide information to build or supplement their own training. Available here.
  • WDK Issue
    • Microsoft recently discovered an issue with the Windows Deployment Kit (WDK) that was released on May 24, 2022 where the WDK user will receive an error message when they start Visual Studio 17.2 with the impacted WDK.
    • The error message is not actionable and will leave any reasonable user confused as to whether their development environment is OK. The message can be dismissed and Visual Studio can still be used for building drivers, but remote driver debugging becomes unavailable.
    • The issue does not impact any OEM preinstalled images and mainly impacts driver developers or other users who use the WDK.
    • Microsoft is planning to re-release the WDK OPK on August 31, 2022. In the meantime, impacted users can go to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/download-the-wdk for options. New WDK Partner numbers is X23-25340 Win 11 22H2 64/Arm64 OPK WDK –2.
  • Family App Signing issue.
    • August 17, 2022 update: Microsoft is planning to release a fix directly to end users through Windows Update that will fix the issue for end users whose preinstall image has not already been updated. This fix is planned to release as part of the 9D servicing update. Microsoft does recommend that all OEMs update their images with the fix that was released to MOO-SOC on August 3, 2022 for the best end user experience.
    • Microsoft recently discovered in which the Family app that shipped with the initial release had an incorrect signing certificate. As a result, the app will not automatically updated from the Microsoft Store. End users will need to update the app manually to receive any future updates.
    • The Family app will not run at all for end users whose PCs are running in S-mode. End users in this case would also need to update the app manually in the Microsoft Store.
    • The Family app is preinstalled only on Windows Home editions.
    • Microsoft is releasing an updated app with a valid signing certificate to MOO-SOC on August 3rd. The part number is X23-23176 - Win 11 22H2 64/Arm64 MultiLang OPK Family App.

  • OEM ZDPs. In early June, Microsoft is planning to release two recommended additional fixes in the Win 11 22H2 Supplemental OPK (X23-16988 - Win 11 22H2 Supplemental OPK 64/Arm64 (Optional)) to accompany the RTM version of Windows 11, version 22H2. The fixes address the following:
    • Certain machines may encounter an inability to resume from shut down or hibernate
    • Some device extension drivers may not be updated via Windows Update due to an incorrect ranking issue

  • SDK Update.

Microsoft is updating the SDK (Software Development Kit) included as part of the OPK to include Arm64 support. This update is to support the Visual Studio 17.4 GA release in November. The new part number for the SDK release isX23-31873 Win 11 22H2 64/Arm64 OPK SDK -2 and is planned to release to MOO-Soc on November, 8.

Windows Subsystem for Android supplemental OPK. Microsoft is planning to release an optional, supplemental OPK to OEMs on October 18th that includes the Windows Subsystem for Android™ and the Amazon Appstore. Microsoft recommends OEMs include this new OPK into their preinstall images for eligible devices to improve the customer experience by reducing the amount of data that needs to be downloaded over the Internet to enable the feature. Currently, these features are available to end users by downloading the software from Microsoft through Windows. More information on the Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore is available Windows blog, docs.microsoft.com, and Microsoft Collaborate. The part number is X23-25328 - Win 11 22H2 64/ARM64 OPK WSA.

Microsoft has released a second optional cumulative “OEM ZDP” to MOO-SOC for Windows 11, version 22H2 to address the below issue found after RTM. The part number is X23-17012 Win 11 22H2 Supplemental OPK #2 64/Arm64 (Optional).

    Setup UI Localization issue.

Microsoft recently discovered an issue with Windows 11, version 22H2, where the Setup UI is not fully localized when an end user attempts to install the OS by booting directly from media such as USB or DVD. The issue only impacts certain UI screens in the Setup UI on non-English versions and does not impact the end user experience during Windows OOBE (Out Of Box Experience) or after. It does not impact standard installation and recovery scenarios including Microsoft media, hard-disk recovery solutions, or recovery solutions that do not involve setup.exe.

Microsoft has fixed the issue, is pulling existing OPKs down from MOO-SOC, and is planning to release new OPKs to OEMs on October 4th, 2022. Microsoft recommends that OEMs update their images with the new media to address the issue. The updated OPK part numbers are:
