SUMMARY: Microsoft announces new pricing and SKUs for Windows Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems extended security updates (ESU).

Microsoft is announcing changes to the price of extended security updates (ESU) for Windows Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems. The following changes will appear on the November 1, 2020 WW Royalty Rate List:

Windows Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems ESU

There will be two ESU options: one for partners that purchased the standard edition and one for partners that purchased the enterprise edition.

  • A new ESU SKU and new pricing will be added for Windows Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems Standard.
  • The name of the existing ESU SKUs will be changed to Windows Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems Enterprise. Prices for ESU years 2 and 3 will be lowered.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems

  • Prices for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems ESU years 2 and 3 will also be lowered.

After reviewing the pricing variability of different editions and product configurations of the original product licenses, Microsoft is announcing changes to the price of extended security updates (ESU) for Windows Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems. The following changes will occur on November 1, 2020:
