Introduction
Microsoft is modernizing the MDOS Smart Client (MSC) experience by moving to a cloud/local hybrid model built on Microsoft Entra ID authentication and introducing Key Bridge as the new ingestion and reporting tool for OA 3.0.
This change is part of a wider security enhancement initiative designed to deliver a more secure and streamlined experience for all MSC users.
1. What’s Changing
All MSC users will be required to sign in using Microsoft Entra ID, ensuring stronger identity protection and a unified access experience across MDOS and DOC. Communication and contact emails remain the same only authentication is changing.
At the same time, Key Bridge will replace the legacy MSC application. With Key Bridge, the key management interface moves to the cloud, while keys themselves remain local in the factory. This delivers secure, cloud driven orchestration without impacting offline production capabilities.
2. Why This Matters
This upgrade improves security, simplifies access, and reduces dependency on local server installations. Partners benefit from:
- Stronger identity governance through Entra ID.
- A modern, cloud managed key management experience.
- More reliable ingestion, synchronization, and reporting.
- A scalable foundation for future MDOS and factory floor tools.
- The new hybrid model combines cloud reliability with local operational flexibility.
3. What Partners Need to Do
New FFKIs (from 16 Feb 2026):
KeyBridge becomes mandatory for all new FFKI onboarding, and the DOC Dashboard will display the Download KeyBridge button for all users. Onboarding emails will also include KeyBridge instructions.
Existing FFKIs:
Migration can begin on 16 Feb 2026, but this is not a cutoff date. Final timelines and detailed migration steps will be shared in future communications.
The following training resources will be available to support the transition to Entra ID and Key Bridge. You can link each item separately for OEMs and down-level partners.
Partner Training Materials
These materials include prerequisites, tenant setup, DOC registration, Key Bridge installation, and first-time access instructions to help partners complete onboarding smoothly.
