Windows 10 IoT Product Editions

Windows IoT offerings provide the best endpoint security to protect data at rest, in motion, and during execution. The following Windows IoT products are releasing:

  • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2019 LTSC - This represents the third LTSC (previously “LTSB”) release of the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise product. This LTSC release incorporates several new features delivered in the Semi-Annual Channel (“SAC”) releases since the last LTSC release. For this new product version, new OPKs are being made available with the release.
  • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise SAC – This product is the SAC (previously “CBB”) version of Windows10 IoT Enterprise. This product will continue to leverage the existing part number of the Windows 10 Enterprise CBB product and Microsoft will be releasing an updated OPK containing the RS5 bits.
  • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Upgrade SKUs – In addition to the standard product offerings being released with RS5, Microsoft is also releasing upgrade SKUs of the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2019 LTSC and the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise SAC that can be distributed to upgrade in-field embedded and IoT devices.
  • Windows 10 IoT Core – The Windows 10 IoT Core product is Microsoft’s Zero Royalty version of the Core product. This product will continue to leverage its existing part number and Microsoft will be releasing an updated OPK containing the RS5 bits.
  • NEW - Windows 10 IoT Core Services – Windows 10 IoT Core Services is a new intelligent edge services subscription that provides device management services for connected devices running Windows 10 IoT Core. Through this new product and services offering, OEMs have access to 10 years of support with the Windows 10 IoT Core Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release along with Windows services to manage device updates and assess device health.
This product combines the capabilities of our small footprint Windows 10 IoT Core product with device monitoring and management through Update Center and Device Health attestation and LTSC support. For more information, see our previous announcement about the Windows 10 IoT Core Services product. Microsoft will be offering the new Windows 10 IoT Core Services offerings to OEMs as a 10-year prepaid SKU. This product will leverage the same OPK as Windows 10 IoT Core.

Windows 10 IoT Product Pricing

  • Windows 10 IoT Products – For additional detail on Windows 10 IoT pricing please contact your authorized Microsoft Distributor.
  • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Products – Beginning with the Anniversary Update (RS1) release, Microsoft simplified its pricing structure with Value Based Pricing. Pricing for the new RS5 IoT Enterprise products will continue under value based pricing. For the RS5 release, pricing remains consistent with the pricing released during Microsoft’s RS1 release. Additionally, volume tier attainment and aggregation rules remain unchanged. For more information on Value Based Pricing product qualifications please see the Value Based Pricing Processor List located on the Device Partner Center (DPC). For additional pricing detail please review the Price List available on the Licensing Resource Center.
  • Windows 10 IoT Core Services –This new product will leverage OEM partners existing attained tiers, based on previous purchases of Windows IoT/Embedded products - such as Windows 10 IoT Enterprise products do today. Additionally, this product will count towards future volume tier attainment for both the Windows 10 IoT Core Services and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise products. For additional pricing detail please review the Price List available on the Licensing Resource Center.
  • Windows 10 IoT Core – Windows 10 IoT Core continues to be a Zero Royalty product. As a reminder because this product is Zero Royalty, it does not count towards volume tier attainment.

Windows 10 IoT Product Licensing

  • Product Licensing – The product licensing materials associated with the launch of RS5 are located on Device Partner Center and effective October 1, 2018. For your convenience, both Clean and Redline versions are available for the documents. For easy access please follow the links below:
    • Product Additional Terms - Available at the Licensing Resource Center.
    • Value Based Pricing Processor List – Available on the partner portal on the Value Based Pricing Processor List download page.
    • Direct IoT Partners with Global Partner Agreement: Unlike previous agreements where an amendment was necessary to add new products to your agreement, the GPA says you are licensed for products published on the Price List. The Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Price List has been updated to include the new 2019 LTSB SKUs and the Core Services SKU. However, you still need to use the Add Remove Products tool on the DOC portal (Manage Agreement Products section) to add these SKUs to your applicable agreements. Please complete this at least one day before you intend to order from an Authorized Replicator. Details may be found in the IoT Direct Handbook.

Additional Information

  • LTSB vs LTSC and CBB vs SAC – With the RS5 release, the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise products have changed names to align with the naming of Microsoft servicing channels. For additional detail please see review our Overview of Windows as a service. The names of the previously released LTSB products will remain LTSB, to not impact any previously acquired design certifications.
  • Language and Language Interface Packs – Reminder, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise has a language-neutral code base. Language Packs (LPs) contain the resources required to translate all or parts of the user interface into a specific language. A language-specific version of the operating system is built by assembling the language-neutral code base with the desired LP. Additionally, Language Interface Packs (LIPs) are available for pre-installation by OEMs. Because the entire user interface is not translated into a given LIP language, LIPs require at least one base language. This means that the parts of the user interface that are not translated into the LIP language are displayed in the base language.
