Summary

Microsoft is planning to launch Office 2021 this fall. This communication provides additional information about the upcoming release and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Details

  • Microsoft is planning to launch a new version of the perpetual Office Products later this fall.
  • While the cloud offers real benefits in productivity, security, and total cost of ownership, Microsoft recognizes that each customer is at a different point in their adoption of cloud services.
  • On-premise versions of Office are an important part of Microsoft’s commitment to give customers the flexibility they need to move to the cloud at their own pace.
  • Office 2021 products will replace Office 2019 products, be supported for 5 years, and will include the same edition line up for OEM of Office Home and Student, Office Home and Business, Office Professional and Office Professional Academic.
  • More information on Office 2021 is available here.
  • Office 2021 and Office 2019 will both be available for OEMs to preinstall for a period of time to support the transition to the new version. More information on the transition period will be available at a later date.
  • The Office OPK 2106 that is planned to release in June will support attaching and activating both Office 2021 and Office 2019. More information on Office OPK 2106 can be found here.
  • OEMs will be able to attach Office 2021 using AFO LB or Digital Attach at launch. More information on Digital Attach will be available here.
  • OEMs can attach Office 2021 products after the RTM of Office OPK 2106 and prior to General Availability (timing TBD). However, Office 2021 products cannot be sold to end customers before GA. More information on this sales embargo can be found in the license terms when they are available in April.
